Tomorrow Judy Shepard will be coming to Reston to speak with students at South Lakes High School. This was set up by the Community Center with coordination from the school's Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), Student Government Association (GSA) and theater students. I have heard she is a great speaker and I hope that she touches the students who come to hear her. I am expecting a full house at the "Little Theater" for her talk.
I will post immediately following her talk and try to capture what she said for those following on this site.
So far this is the second activity we set up for South Lakes. Several weeks ago Greg Pierotti came in and spoke with a Leadership class, did a workshop with theater students and spent some time with the members of the Gay Straight Alliance after school. Many of the students will also attend the reading on the 12th.
Many of these students were 6 or 7 years old when Matthew was murdered. They are not as familiar with the events as many of us were. I hope these activities help them see the scope of hate out there.
I have so much to write about our efforts in Reston Virginia, but for right now I wanted to share this interview with Judy Shepard in MetroWeekly here in DC.
